Looking at the modern view of COP.
COP 28 - (COP, 2023)
When it comes to adapting with the environment, recognizing resource availability conveys deep consideration as global stewards find pathways to assist resource regenerability. With a keen focus on staying aligned with the 1.5*c global warming limit, worldwide collaboration sparks new age urgency in 2024; with the intent to frame resource equity through parameters set within the Sustainable Development Goals. The Conference of Parties convened for the 28th session in Dubai in the winter of 2023. Harmoniously deliberating, prominent figures converged together to work diligently with difficulties to create a firm foundation aiming to cement agreed-upon ambitious policies that continually morph with seasonality.
The Global Goal on Adaptation, provides a framework that catalyzes funding for climatic incidents. Developing climate resiliency, through measuring holistic adaptation strategies, reinforces fragile infrastructure. Adapting behavior along with nature in the anthropocene will help develop new skills as society exponentially grows. Policy cycles are essential. Mohamed Adow, director of Power Shift Africa, asserts an adapted policy cycle can help localities in a dimension which,“Assess, plan, implement, and monitor, evaluate and learn (MEl)”.
Evolution, in an urban context, stems from physical or behavioral changes where land development forms a sense of place in an environment that precedes generations, as seen in past architectural or agrarian feats. Adaptation in the school of thought, with the word adapt meaning “to change your behaviour in order to deal more successfully with a new situation” per Oxford Dictionary. Spontaneous climatic events do occur caused from accelerated warming; these events may cause increased intensity in wildfires, and increased coastal erosion -- influencing landslide rates with sediment pooling in unknown locations, and environmental health.
At COP28, international cooperatives came together to reflect on developing countries' local climate vulnerability. In this age of data, our anthropogenic roots are recognized by world leaders who were resolved to reduce emissions in all sectors via policy changes and technological advancements.
Global funding for climate change adaptation targets revitalization of the earth, our home, where the effects of accelerated warming, and poor waste management, both immediate and latent, affect our daily life. Adopting the Global Goal on Adaptation, which was passed at COP28, reflects awareness for the hurdles we must overcome in the future.
